Meet Our Coffee Co-Ops

Brew Good. Do Good. Meet our Coffee Co-Ops.

Our hemp extract-infused specialty coffee is a carefully curated blend of both Colombian and Nicaraguan coffees. Our coffee is selected for its flavor and quality, but it is equally—if not more—important that our coffee comes from ethical sources.

The Colombia Risaralda Co-Op–Early Leaders Among Coffee Co-ops

Colombian coffee is revered as being among the tastiest coffees in the world. With near-perfect growing conditions that never get below freezing and provide just the precise amount of rain, Colombia is uniquely situated to grow incredible coffee. Now pair an incredible crop with an extraordinary co-op and you get the Colombia Risaralda Co-Op.

An early leader in coffee co-ops, the Colombia Risaralda Co-Op has been supporting and elevating their communities since 1959. Through their work, they’ve been advancing the idea that their farmers own their own coffee, allowing them to independently support their own families and communities.

The SOPPEXCCA Coffee Co-Op–Creating Opportunities for Women

Nicaragua is a relative newcomer when it comes to coffee. Though missionaries and colonists introduced coffee to the country in the 1700s, political turmoil kept the coffee largely a secret from the rest of the world until the early 2000s. When the economic potential for coffee was recognized and supported by the government, Nicaragua really earned its place on the map for growing some of the best gourmet coffee available.

Similar to Colombia, Nicaragua also enjoys premium growing conditions. The high altitude offers the ideal amount of rain with slightly cooler temperatures that also never get below freezing. The Jinotega region, specifically, is also highly volcanic. This soil is rich in minerals that are particularly good for growing coffee.

When the climate is perfect, the soil is rich and trade is open, all you need is the right people for magic to happen. Enter SOPPEXCCA. Comprised of 650 producers from the province of Jinotega in northern Nicaragua, this emerging, mission-based co-op is one of the highest-quality coffee co-ops in the world. It is Fair-Trade certified, but what makes this co-op truly unique is its extremely high female membership and their mission is to create more opportunities for women their families and their communities.

Furthering the Nelson’s Commitment to Supporting Farmers

Aside from being able to offer an exceptionally rich and robust selection of coffee, attention to our sourcing allows us to further the Nelson family’s commitment to supporting farmers by working with coffee cooperatives who are doing great things for their local economies and communities. We can all raise our cups to that!
